ATHOLL COUNTRY LIFE MUSEUM NEWSLETTER - DECEMBER 2009
Monday 25th January 10
Although closed for the winter, much activity is taking place behind the scenes to prepare the museum for the 2010 season. A team of devoted and dedicated volunteers meet at the museum each Wednesday at 10 AM to perform a multitude of essential tasks. We can never have too many volunteers, so anyone interested in coming along to help with this interesting work will be made most welcome.
The museum continues to grow in popularity among locals and visitors alike. There was an increase in visitor numbers in 2009 – up 8% on 2008, with a significant number of return visitors. Those of you who have not visited the museum for several years will be surprised how much it has changed. We provide a new themed static exhibition each year.
In November, the on-line exhibition THIS HAPPENS IN WAR was launched at Pitlochry High School. This is part of the nationwide THEIR PAST YOUR FUTURE project which Atholl Country Life Museum worked on together with our partners The Museum of the Black Watch, Perth and The St Andrews Preservation Trust, with the assistance of YMCA Perth. The project aims to bring young people and older generations in the local community together through the unique oral histories of war veterans. The exhibition comprises audio / visual interviews and static displays featuring veterans from Perthshire, Fife and Angus, including several with Atholl connections. The Atholl Country Life Museum will host the exhibition throughout the summer of 2010.
This month sees the launch of the museum’s own web site. The web site will enable us to promote our unique museum further afield, allow us to communicate directly with interested parties, announce our events and provide more detailed information on our exhibits and exhibitions. Be sure to visit us on www.athollcountrylifemuseum.org
Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our conrol, the AULD NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS planned for 8 January in the village hall had to be cancelled. However, it is hoped that we can arrange an alternative event in January or February. Please keep checking this web site for updates.
